Anthrax Announces New Album and Lead Single

Thrash metal veterans Anthrax are returning to the studio with their 12th album, Cursum Perficio, scheduled for release on September 18. This project marks the band's first full-length studio effort in over a decade. To preview the upcoming album, the group will release the lead single, It's for the Kids, this Friday.

The title Cursum Perficio is a Latin phrase found on a tile at the entrance of Marilyn Monroe's final home. While the phrase is sometimes interpreted to mean "my journey ends," its more literal translation is "I will persevere" or "I accomplish my course."

Drummer Charlie Benante emphasized the significance of this release during a recent appearance on a podcast. Benante expressed high confidence in the album's consistency, stating that every track stands on its own and maintains a high level of quality from start to finish. He also noted that the band intends to schedule as many live performances as possible to support the new record.

Addressing the ten-year gap since their 2016 album For All Kings, guitarist Scott Ian provided clarity in a recent interview. Ian explained that the band toured in support of their previous record until November 2019. Although they planned to reunite in 2020 to begin the new album, the global pandemic disrupted their schedule. Ian noted that the actual writing and recording process took approximately three years, which he believes is a standard timeframe for a band of their stature in the modern industry.
